An appropriately credentialed and/or licensed counselor will conduct a substance use disorder assessment, which will include a urine analysis drug screen to determine appropriate level of care. Applicants who meet the ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria for 0.5 and 1 levels of care will be deemed appropriate for the pretrial diversion program. ASAM recommends early intervention and/or outpatient treatment for these individuals. If the applicant is determined to need a more intensive level of care, the counselor will make those recommendations.
Professional services targeting individuals who are at risk for developing a substance-related problem but may not have a diagnosed SUD are provided in Level 0.5.These early intervention services - including individual or group counseling, motivational interventions, and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) - seek to identify substance-related risk factors to help recognize the potentially harmful consequences of high-risk behaviors.
